I was born in a remote mountain village in China. I went to a university in Beijing and worked in an institute in Beijing for many years after graduation. I came to study in the United States in 1981, obtained Ph.D. in physics. I later taught at American universities. I went from the son of a farmer in a mountain village to a professor in the United States of America. My childhood was in the era of Kuomintang rule, of Communist Mao Zedong rule, and then of Deng Xiaoping’s reform. The United States is my current country of citizenship and residence.
